The upcoming auspicious festival which highlights immense love and purity amongst couples, Karwa Chauth is on the way. Karwachauth is marked on 1 Nov this year, it is remarked during the Krishna paksha Chaturthi in the Hindu month of Kartik. This festival is important for married Hindu women, they keep one of the hardest fasts during this festival named ‘Nirjala fast’ in which they don’t even drink a single drop of water. Women do this for the longevity, prosperity and well-being of their husbands.

It is kept from the rise of the sun to the evening when the moon is located in the evening. In order to celebrate Karwa chauth the shopping centers, malls etc. are filled with decorating items, dresses, and strainers which again have great importance in Karwachauth festivals as through these women see the moon and their husbands during puja. The preparations for Karwa Chauth are splotching across the country with great zest and zeal.   

What is the significance of Karwachauth ?

Generally, women united together to recite katha which has great significance in regard to the karvachauth, women get ready with solah sringaar, especially mangal sutra, vermillion, and bindi. Red is considered the serene colour for the day that is worn by many women but with the trends, they also started wearing other colourful dresses but usually avoid black and white shades in colour.

‘Sargi’ is another important significance in which married women wake up early in the morning or before the sun rises and eat food and nuts available in the ‘Sargi’ given by their mothers-in-law. It is basically a special and pious platter including food, fruits, Saari and sringar which married receive from their mothers-in-law. The sargi midnight meal must have food items which nutritional and healthy such as nuts, fruits and sweets.

As per common perception, women who stayed behind in ancient times, when a lot of men were away from home because of trade, travel, personal reasons or wars, offered special prayers and fasted for their well-being. In this context, every woman keeps the fast for their spouse.  

Karwa Chauth 2023 Date and Subh Mahurat 

Karwa Chauth falls on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, according to the Drik Panchang. The hours of Karwa Chauth puja are from 5:36 pm to 6:54 pm, and the upavasa (fasting) is from 6:33 am to 8:15 pm. 

The moon rises at 8:15 p.m. in the meantime. Last but not least, the Chaturthi tithi will begin at 9:30 p.m. on October 31 and end at 9:19 p.m. with Thanksgiving.

Rituals and celebrations of Karwa Chauth

Firstly, clean and embellish the puja area, and place the Lord Shiva, Parvati and Ganesha idols in the puja region. Decorate the entire area with flowers and lights and diya. Moreover, offers water, blossoms, flowers and all puja products in front of the god. Recite the karwachauth Katha, keeping all your prayers in your head. Offer vermillion powder or red powder to the deities following worship for your husband’s health and longevity from God. After that women wait for the moon to be located in the evening by singing geet, dancing and following the rituals.

Consequently, after the moon appears in the night, they have a sip of water from their husband’s hands and eat sweets, followed by taking blessings from the moon and their husbands.
