73rd Army Day: President Kovind and PM Modi expresses gratitude towards Indian Armed Forces

As India celebrates its 73rd Army Day on January 15, 2021, to honor its soldiers, President Ram Nath Kovind and PM Narendra Modi joined 1.3 billion Indians in expressing gratitude towards the Armed Forces for setting an example of selfless service, brotherhood, and patriotism.

Since 1949, India celebrates the National Army Day every year on January 15. The date is significant because, on this day in 1949, Field Marshal Kodandera M. Cariappa took charge from General Sir Francis Butcher to become the Indian ArmyÂs first Commander-in-Chief.

Early in the morning today, President Kovind expressed his gratitude to the Indian Armed Forces by remembering the Âsupreme sacrifice of the Âvaliant men and women in serving the nation. He said,  India will remain forever grateful to courageous and committed soldiers, veterans, and their families.Â

PM Modi too saluted the Âmighty soldiers and their families for their efforts in working to raise the Âhead of the country with prideÂ. He tweeted, ÂCongratulations to the mighty soldiers of the country and their families on Army Day in defense of Mother Bharati. Our army is strong, courageous and determined, which has always raised the head of the country with pride. I salute the Indian Army on behalf of all the countrymen.

On Thursday, a radio message was aired on All India Radio, in which Army Chief Gen M.M. Naravane expressed IndiaÂs firm resistance against any attempt to change the Âstatus quo at the countryÂs borders.

On this occasion, the Indian Army organized a marathon ‘Vijay Run’ to commemorate ÂSwarnim Vijay Varsh celebrations of India’s resounding victory over Pakistan in 1971. This morning, a sobre ceremony was also conducted at the National War Memorial in Delhi, in the presence of CDS General Bipin Rawat, General Naravane, IAF Chief Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria, and Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh. During the event CDS General Bipin Rawat paid homage to the soldiers whose Âsacrifice in line of duty inspires us to rededicate ourselves with renewed vigour.Â
