Bangladesh celebrates 50th Victory Day Celebrations, President Ram Nath Kovind present

The President of India Ram Nath Kovind is in Bangladesh and he will be participating in the country’s 50th Victory Day celebration. 

Ram Nath Kovind, the President of India is on a three-day visit to neighboring Bangladesh. He has been invited by his Bangladeshi counterpart President Abdul Hamid to take part in the country’s 50th Victory Day celebration that will be celebrated today. ‘Bijoy Dibosh’ (Victory Day) marks the victory of the Bangladeshi forces over the Pakistani forces in the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. This is Kovind’s first foreign trip since the outbreak of the Covid-19 Pandemic. The Indian President will be the only foreign dignitary to be present at Dhaka on the occasion of the golden jubilee of Victory Day. 

Taking to the special occasion, President Kovind presented a replica of the MIG 21 (1971-era) aircraft to the President of Bangladesh, Abdul Hamid to commemorate the joint sacrifices that were made by the Indian and Bangladesh armed forces during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War.  Kovind also assured the top leadership of Bangladesh that they have a special place in India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy. The Indian President also highlighted that the strong bilateral ties between both India and Bangladesh are enough to handle all the problems that come our way. 

President Kovind, who arrived in Dhaka yesterday, attended a banquet hosted by his Bangladeshi counterpart Abdul Hamid at the Bangabhaban Presidential Palace. Earlier, he met Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and both of them held talks regarding boosting the bilateral ties between both countries. 

On the other hand, in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be participating in the homage and reception ceremony of ‘Swarnim Vijay Mashaals’ at the National War Memorial in the National Capital. Taking it to his Twitter handle, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the occasion wrote “On the 50th Vijay Diwas, I recall the great valour and sacrifice by the Muktijoddhas, Biranganas and bravehearts of the Indian Armed Forces. Together, we fought and defeated oppressive forces. Rashtrapati Ji’s presence in Dhaka is of special significance to every Indian.”
