Satellite imagery shows China is assisting Saudi Arabia with building Ballistic Missiles
US intelligence agencies have shown that China has transferred missile technology to Saudi Arabia to help them build their own ballistic missiles in addition to the missiles that The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has bought from China in the past.
The United States Intelligence Agencies have found that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is actively producing its own ballistic missiles with the help of the People’s Republic of China. This new development could have significant ripple effects across the Middle East and complicate the Biden administration’s efforts to restrain the nuclear ambitions of Iran, Saudi Arabia’s top regional rival. In the past, Saudi has brought ballistic missiles from China but has never been able to build its own until now. As per the US intelligence agencies and satellite images, Saudi is currently manufacturing the intercontinental ballistic missile in at least one location.
Currently, the Biden administration is facing questions about whether Saudi Arabia’s ballistic missile technology will change the power dynamics in the Middle-East region. Any response from the US, in this scenario, could further complicate the scene further as the Biden-led administration is trying to mend their relationship with Beijing on several issues like climate, trade, and the Pandemic. A senior official in the Biden Administration said “It’s all a matter of calibration.” However, The National Security Council and CIA declined to comment on the issue.
The report by the US intelligence agencies states that when the Chinese administration was asked that if sensitive Intercontinental ballistic missile technology has recently been transferred between China and The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Chinese Foreign Ministry explained that the two countries are “strategic partners” and that they maintain friendly cooperation in all areas, including military-related trade.
In recent times, there has been a growing friendship between the two Asian Nations. Earlier, in March this year, Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, the Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia held a meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, and welcomed Beijing’s active efforts to promote peace and stability in the Middle East. Wang commenced his Middle East tour that included official visits to Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, as well as a working visit to Oman.
