“Aurangzeb severed many heads but Guru Tegh Bahadur stood like a rock” :PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Guru Tegh Bahadur on the auspicious occasion of 400th Prakash Purab of the Sikh Guru.

Addressing the nation from Delhi’s Red Fort on the occasion of 400th Prakash Purab of Guru Tegh Bahadur, PM Modi attacked the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb. Praising the Sikh Guru, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said “Guru Tegh Bahadur became Hind di Chadar and stood like a rock. This Red Fort is a witness that Guru Tegh Bahadur stood like a rock against Aurangzeb’s tyranny.” He further added that “I am happy that today our country is moving forward with full devotion to the ideals of our gurus. On this virtuous occasion, I bow at the feet of all ten gurus. Hearty congratulations to all of you on the occasion of Prakash Parv.”

PM Modi, on the 400th anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, also released a commemorative coin and a postage stamp to pay tributes to the Sikh leader. Praising him, the Prime Minister added that the Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib around the iconic Red Fort is a symbol of the sacrifices of Guru Tegh Bahadur. The programme at the iconic Red Fort in the national capital was aimed at highlighting the teachings of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh guru who sacrificed his life to protect the religion and human values.

As per the sources in the Ministry of Culture, the reason for selecting Red Fort as the venue for organising the event was because it was here that the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb had given orders for the execution of the ninth Sikh guru Guru Tegh Bahadur in 1675. The event also witnessed more than 400 Sikh musicians taking part in the event. Additionally, a langar was also organised to mark the occasion.
