Today, India registered approximately 3.50 lakh new Covid cases, up 9% from yesterday’s total of 3.17 lakh, which was also the biggest in eight months. India is the second-worst-affected country after the United States, with 3.85 crore cases.
The current cases now account for 5.23 percent of all infections, while the COVID-19 recovery rate has dropped to 93.50 percent nationwide. The daily positivity rate has increased from 16.41% to 17.94%, but the weekly positivity rate has remained the same at 16.56 percent. Today, 29 states reported instances of the highly contagious Omicron type, bringing the total number of cases to 9,692. The total number of COVID-19 vaccine doses provided in the country has surpassed 160 million. According to the government, 94 percent of adults in India have got the first dose of COVID-19 vaccination, with 72 percent having received all three doses.
According to the Health Ministry, 703 people have died as a result of Covid in the last 24 hours. More than ten deaths have been reported in thirteen states. Maharashtra, one of the states hardest hit by the Covid epidemic, reported 46,197 new coronavirus cases, 125 Omicron infections, and 37 deaths. The daily tally was 2,500 more than the previous day’s total of 43,697 instances recorded by the state. Gujarat reported 24,485 new cases, the greatest single-day increase so far, bringing its total to over 10,000, while 13 individuals died from illness, according to the state health department.
On Thursday, Delhi recorded 43 Covid deaths, the greatest number of deaths from the virus since June 10 of last year, when 44 individuals died. The number of new Covid cases in the national capital was 12,306, down 10.72 percent from the previous day (13,785). In total, there are 17,60,272 Covid instances in the city. Kerala, in the south, experienced its largest single-day surge since the pandemic began in 2020. The 46,387 new coronavirus cases brought the overall number of coronavirus cases in the state to 54,87,898. Assam had an almost 5% drop in new COVID-19 cases compared to the previous day, with 7,929 more people testing positive for the virus. For the previous three days, the number of coronavirus cases has been steadily increasing.
