Delhi: Protests took place ahead of Rahul Gandhi’s appearance before ED
On Monday morning a lot of dramatic scenes and chaos took place in Delhi ahead of Rahul Gandhi’s appearance before the ED (Enforcement Directorate) in the National Herald case. Numerous Congress workers were detained around the party’s headquarters in the city. On the other side party’s spokesperson, Randeep Surjewala claimed that “thousands have been arrested since last night.”
Late on Sunday, the Delhi Police had ordered the party to not hold any protests in the national capital, mentioning the “communal situation” and the VVIP movement. However, this did not stop the party’s members from conducting demonstrations. Surjewala claimed that the party’s “Satyagraha” march will be continued no matter what. He further added that an “undeclared emergency” has been declared in the city, this statement was made to attack the Bharatiya Janata Party. Due to all this security has been increased near the probe agency’s office as well. It is expected that more and more protesters will emerge throughout the day in Delhi and other parts of the country. The rage in the protesters also increased because the BJP called the demonstration “a fake satyagraha.”
Amid the demonstrations, Randeep Surjewala said, “Satya ka Sangram‘ (The revolution for the truth) will continue under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi. Even the Britishers failed to suppress the voice of the Congress during the freedom struggle, then how can this ruling government?
There were many visuals that showed party workers holding placards near the All India Congress Committee in the support of Gandhi. Many ballons with the former Congress chief’s pictures and slogan- ‘Satyameva Jayate‘ (truth always wins) written on them were also noticed flying in the air.
A money-laundering case that is connected with the National Herald-Associated Journals Ltd was newly filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). In this case, Sonia Gandhi, who tested positive for Covid recently, was summoned too. She was hospitalized on Sunday and now she will be appearing before the ED on June 23.
