Operation Ganga: PM Modi decides to send Union Ministers to neighbouring countries of Ukraine
PM Modi stated, “The government is working hard and our sons and daughter who are stranded in Ukraine will be brought back safely.”
On Sunday, after addressing an election rally in Uttar Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a crucial meeting on the ongoing crisis in war-torn Ukraine. Apart from Prime Minister, Dr. S Jaishankar (Minister of External Affairs), H V Shringla (Foreign Secretary), and other top officials from the Ministry of External Affairs were also present. The PM, during the meeting that lasted for about 2 hours, told the officials present that the evacuation of the stranded Indians in Ukraine is the government’s topmost priority.
According to the sources in the Ministry of External Affairs, PM Modi also discussed enhancing cooperation with neighboring countries of Ukraine to speed up the process of evacuation. On Sunday, India evacuated as many as 688 citizens from Ukraine. India has started ‘Operation Ganga’ under which the Indian government is trying to safely evacuate the Indian citizens from Ukraine. As per Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, approximately 13,000 Indians are still in Ukraine and the government is trying to safely evacuate them at the earliest.

People, at the Delhi International Airport, were seen cheering for the people who returned back in two Air India flights from the Romanian capital Bucharest and one from Hungarian capital Budapest. The Ukrainian government closed its airspace after the country saw a massive military exercise by the Russian troops. Since then, the Indian government has been in constant touch with the neighboring countries of Ukraine to safely evacuate the Indians.
As per the sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Monday also called an urgent meeting and it was decided that the government will also be sending Union Ministers like Hardeep Singh Puri, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Kiren Rijiju and Gen VK Singh to neighbouring countries of Ukraine to coordinate and ensure safe evacuation of Indian students.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine, and asked them to establish dialogue and immediate ceasefire.
