BJP MLA apologizes by doing sit-ups during UP Election rally
Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Robertsganj in Sonbhadra district, Bhupesh Chaubey surprised everyone when he stood on the chair and held his ears and started doing sit-ups, begging forgiveness for any mistakes that he might have made during the past five years. This happened during a rally in which the former health minister of Jharkhand and MLA Bhanu Pratap Shahi was present in the rally as the chief guest. Shahi, who visited Robertsganj for electioneering in his favor, had also attended the inaugural function of his election office three days ago.
In the 2017 assembly elections, Chaubey had defeated Avinash Kuswaha of the Samajwadi Party for the first time by a margin of over 40,000 votes. However, there was an acrimony among the party workers as well as people with him for not listening to them. A local resident told the media that most of the people were complaining that Bhupesh Chaubey does not respond to their phone calls and the matter was also raised during the launch of the election office.
Possibly sensing the crowd’s irritation, he took this stand and started sit-ups by holding his ears on the stage while the other leaders were handling the rally. Beginning with an apology in public, he looked for the blessing of people for his victory again and described himself as better than other participants. The Samajwadi Party has fielded its former candidates and MLA Avinash Kuswaha, while the Bahujan Samajwadi Party has fielded a Brahmin candidate Avinash Shukla from this seat.
