BJP MP Diya Kumari: “Property on which the Taj Mahal stands belongs to her family”

On Wednesday Diya Kumari, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s MP and former princess of Jaipur city claimed that the land on which the Taj Mahal was built originally belonged to the royal family of Jaipur, i.e her family. She further added that the land was acquired by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan and that she has documents to prove that the land belongs to Jaipur’s royal family.

This statement by Diya Kumari comes after the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) was ordered to unlock and examine 20 rooms inside the Taj Mahal to check for the presence of Hindu idols in a plea filed in the Allahabad high court. On May 4, Rajneesh Singh, the BJP’s media in-charge for Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya district, filed the petition. In the petition, I have demanded that the 22 doors of rooms of the monument which are closed should be opened to see the truth, whatever it is,” Rajnesh Singh mentioned in his petition.

Diya Kumari claimed that Compensation was given in lieu of the land but how much it was, whether it was accepted or not. She added that she is not in a position to claim anything because she has not studied the records which are present in their ‘pothikhana’. But still, she was determined that the land belonged to her family and Shah Jahan had acquired it.

She further added that at the time there could have been no appeal because there was no judiciary. Now only after reviewing the documents will things become clear and evident. In response to the petition, she stated that the request to open the rooms and conduct an inquiry was reasonable because people should be aware of the reasons behind the rooms being locked. Before the Taj Mahal, there may have been anything, such as a temple. People have the right to know what existed prior to the’maqbara.’
