Devendra Fadnavis gets rebuked by Goa MLA Pratapsingh Rane Devendra Fadnavis said that Pratapsingh Rane, one of the three remaining Congress legislators in the Goa legislature, would switch sides and “bless” the BJP during a party ceremony to induct Ravi Naik, a Congress defector.

Pratapsingh Rane, Goa’s seniormost lawmaker, dismissed senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Devendra Fadnavis’ suggestion that he, too, might soon switch to the saffron party after 45 years in the Congress, saying it was a “figment of imagination” and that he has no plans to leave the party he has served for more than 45 years. Devendra Fadnavis said that Pratapsingh Rane, one of the three remaining Congress legislators in the Goa legislature, would switch sides and “bless” the BJP during a party ceremony to induct Ravi Naik, a Congress defector.

When Pratapsingh Rane switches, Fadnavis believes the Congress, which has been reduced from a Nano (a small car with four wheels) to an autorickshaw or a three-wheeler, would become a cycle, or a two-member legislature. Pratapsingh Rane retorted to Fadnavis in a 34-second video that was widely shared by the Goa Congress. “The rumour that I’m leaving my political party is a fiction of the imagination. These people are only interested in spreading rumours. “I am not leaving my party,” said Rane, a 10-term legislator in Goa who holds numerous records.

Rane not only holds the record for being Goa’s longest-serving legislator, but he also holds the record for serving as the state’s chief minister for a little less than 16 years, spanning six terms between 1980 and 2007. Between 2007 through 2012, he served as Speaker of the Assembly. Since 1972, when he was initially elected to the Union Territory of Goa, Daman, and Diu’s legislative assembly, he has been continually selected. “I’ve been a member of the Congress party for more than 45 years. I don’t think I’d ever considered quitting the Congress party at this point. “I am a member of the Indian National Congress,” the former Chief Minister added.
