Priyanka Gandhi woos women voters of UP with slogan “Ladki hoon, lad sakti hoon”

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, on Wednesday,  sought women’s support for her Congress party in the upcoming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. Gandhi urged women to come together and seek their rights in politics, pointing out that they comprise half the population.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress general secretary launched the party’s 100 days action plan for the “Adhi Abadi”, an outreach programme for women voters in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. Arriving in Chitrakoot’s Ram Ghat, Gandhi launched the programme. The Congress general secretary also announced that 40 percent of tickets will be given to women in the upcoming high-voltage Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. The Congress leader has also made big promises to woo women voters and for which a separate manifesto has been prepared.

Gandhi also asked women why they should help a government that is doing nothing for them. She also urged women to come together and seek their rights in politics, pointing out that they comprise half the population. Gandhi, on the behalf of her party also announced key poll promises that include smartphone and two-wheelers for college-going girls, three cylinders for free for housewives, free travel for women in government buses, an honorarium of Rs 10,000 per month to ASHA and Anganwadi workers, and old age-widow pension of Rs 1000 per month.

Exhorting women to support her party weeks after it promised to reserve 40 percent of its tickets for women candidates, Priyanka urged women at the Congress’s “Ladki Hoon, Lad Sakti Hoon [I am a girl, and can fight]” campaign to rally behind her party. “I have come here to talk to you as you have to make up your mind. You are half the population, raise your voice. Come together and seek your rights in politics. If we are half in population then we should get the half share as well,” she said.

According to top sources in the grand old party, the Congress is also going to commence a big public relations campaign to reach out to four crore women voters in the next 100 days. A brigade of around 8,000 woman volunteers has been assigned for the task with the slogan “Ladki hoon lad sakti hoon”. As many as 150 professionals are working on this campaign. The brigade will reach about 2 lakh women daily and convey the promises of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to them.

Congress is trying to woo the women voters of Uttar Pradesh as it comprises a huge chunk of electorates in India’s most populous state. There are about 7 crore women voters in the state.
