WB CM Mamata Banerjee faces Protests in Varanasi, gets greeted by chants of Jai Shree Ram
On Wednesday, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee was welcomed in Varanasi with loud chants of ‘Jai Shree Ram’ and black flags along with slogans like ‘Mamata Banerjee go back’. This incident happened on 2nd March 2022 in the evening when Mamata Banerjee made an appearance at Varanasi to address an election rally with Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav. She came to promote a campaign for the candidates of the Samajwadi Party ahead of the seventh phase of voting in the ongoing assembly election in Uttar Pradesh.
Several videos are trending on social media in which people are seen chanting ‘Jai Shree Ram’ as Mamata Banerjee’s convoy passes by the streets of Varanasi. She also was seen blocked off by Activists of the rightwing group- Hindu Yuva Vahini.
An user on Twitter posted one such video in which Police can be seen chasing a few such activists. One of the activists was shouting,” My name is Nitish Singh. I am City Secretary of Hindu Yuva Vahini. Today Mamata Bano, who is responsible for the genocide of Hindus in Bengal, has arrived at Kashi. By chanting Jai Shri Ram aloud, we want to bring this to you that this is not west Bengal this is Uttar Pradesh a land of Sanatan Hindus.”
Later talking to Media, senior party leader and the minister in Kolkata said, “That the agitation against Banerjee was not surprising especially in BJP-ruled constituency as it reflects the anti-liberal mindset of Narendra Modi.”
This is not the first time Mamata is facing such hate. Earlier, on several instance, she has faced similar kinds of situation and was been greeted by chants of Jai Shree Ram. In January 2021, she walked out of the stage refusing to address the public gathered at Victoria Memorial in Kolkata for Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose birth anniversary celebration because the crowd was chanting Jai Shree Ram.
