Mamata Banerjee gets attacked by miscreants in Nandigram

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee sustained severe bone injuries after she was allegedly “pushed” by four to five miscreants at Nandigram in the East Midnapore district. She is admitted to the SSKM Hospital in Kolkata. There are injuries to her foot, shoulder, and neck and she has been given painkillers.

The event happened on Wednesday evening at around 6:15 pm after the Trinamool Congress chief filed nomination from Nandigram for the upcoming Assembly elections. Mamata Banerjee is up against the former party wallop and now a Bharatiya Janata Party leader, Suvendhu Adhikari.

Banerjee has told the media that she was “deliberately pushed by 4-5 people.” She has also mentioned the absence of any local police or superintendent on the scene when the unknown miscreants attacked her. Banerjee has a security cover of the Z+ category. Pointing to her leg in the hospital, she added, “See how it is swelling up”. Asked if it was a planned attack, she said, “Of course it is a conspiracy… there were no policemen around me.”

There are no visuals of the attack despite the large media presence during the entire tour to East Midnapore town. There are photos of Banerjee being carried by her security personnel to the back seat of her vehicle. ÂThis is not the first time an attempt has been made to silence Mamata Banerjee. Earlier too, she was attacked on this very historic turf for standing by farmers. But nothing will break her will. She was, she is and she will continue to be your strongest voice, an official statement from the party read.

“Initial examination suggests severe bony injuries in her left ankle, foot, and bruises, injuries in the right shoulder, forearm, and neck. The Chief Minister complained of chest pain, breathlessness since the incident. She is kept under close watch for 48 hours,” Dr. Manimoy Bandopadhya, the director of SSKM Hospital, told ANI after the examination.
