An Australian judge has agreed to delay efforts to deport the World No 1 Tennis Player Novak Djokovic to late Monday, as his court case continues in Melbourne. Djokovic has won temporary relief from judge Anthony Kelly. Further, the judge has found the decision to cancel his visa ‘unreasonable’ and said that the 34- year old Serbian tennis star must be immediately released and all his documents including his passport and other belongings must be returned to him.

Novak Djokovic arrived on the island continent last Wednesday in the hope to defend his Australian Open crown and seal an unprecedented 21st Grand Slam title. He was questioned at the airport overnight by the officials and following this his was was revoked and the tennis star was transferred to a Melbourne immigration detention facility center pending deportation. The unvaccinated Novak was alleged to have not provided adequate evidence of a medical exemption.

After the announcement by the court on Monday, the fans of Novak Djokovic have been celebrating, however, the government’s lawyer stated that the immigration minister will consider using a separate power to cancel his visa. Earlier, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison stated that the rules for everyone are the same and everyone should abide by the law.

The tussle between the administration and Djokovic has been going in for six days and the 20-time grand slam winner claims that he had been infected with Covid in December and thus he says that he was eligible to be exempted from requiring vaccination to enter Australia.
