Yogie Chandra Tatvaraj

The lead singer, Yogie Chandra Tatvaraj, of the now defunct Chennai rock band NEMESIS AVENUE that featured Oscar winning composer A R Rahman, among others, before his entry and meteoric rise in the film industry, Chandran Christian, who now goes as Yogie Chandra Tatvaraj, has a new book out which is everything from hilarious, rebellious, at places sarcastic, reflective and eclectic with a lot to think about and cherish.

Wagging Tongues is a compilation of short stories and reflection through the eyes and spirit of Ranjan D’ Cruz, an Indian maverick rock singer. The stories reflect the irony and frailty of life looking at the positive learning and funny side and always being a student of life. It is inspired in thought by the philosophies of Bruce Lee, Krishnamurti, Rabindranath Tagore, Albert Einstein and Osho. The book looks at the beauty of life and nature and being unique, not following any rigid path but being flexible and natural to one’s personality. The stories and quotes are very original with a distinctive style uniquely Chandra’s covering various aspects of life and bringing contemporary and timeless wisdom with something to laugh about and reflect.

The book touches upon various subjects with humor and often sarcasm on the illusion of time to the ironies of contemporary society. There is a sense of timelessness in Chandra’s writing which will make this book relevant even a hundred years from today. Some of the stories are wise while others crazy but you cannot help but realize the timeless wisdom in his narrative.

The book also features Sufi and short stories by Osho which complement the book and its narrative. The stories are deeply reflective on the human predicament and will leave you in splits in places with a lot to take home and ponder.

Chandra is a post graduate in Indian philosophy from Osmania University and the book reflects his deep interest in Philosophy apart from Psychology and Physics. Don’t expect him to be shy about many things which may leave you at places appalled, but his common sense approach to dissect any subject will make you cherish his writing and book for a long time. He is a celebrated name amongst the Indian rock ‘n’ roll fraternity but his down-to-earth look at life will leave you asking for more.

Chandra teaches creative writing for an academy in Hyderabad and the teacher in him profoundly comes out in the book. This is definitely one for the collection from one of the most controversial yet hilarious and down-to-earth personalities in the Indian music scene.
