Training Workshop for Young Lawyers

“Know our Courts: Criminal Lawyering in Delhi”, a uniquely designed week-long Virtual Training-&-Certification was recently concluded with wonderful response from the 50+ attendees who ranged from law students and judiciary-aspirants to police personnel and NGO staff.

Held over Zoom for 2 hours daily from 24-30 Jan 2022, this program was organized by the Delhi-based law firm MKA Legal, in collaboration with the non-profit company- LAWGYSTIX Foundation, well-known NGO- Kartavyam Trust, and Haryana-based mentoring organization- The विवेकी Vikas Co.

For the first time ever, such interactive live training witnessed a prosecutor, defense counsel, police officer all at one platform- so that the targeted beneficiaries could feel empowered enough to gain varied field-specific insights and confidently step into Courts; thus positively affecting the present lawyer:litigant ratio in the capital.

On the final day of the program, Sh. Rajender Shastri (retd. ASJ, Delhi District Courts) joined to motivate the young learners.

He expressed his delight at the organization of such a training whereby he said he saw hope towards addressing the twin issues of- talented law graduates preferring corporate work over entering courtrooms due to technical processes in the former, as also disillusioned ‘first generation lawyers’ feeling helpless and exploited due to lack of sufficient practical lawyering skills.

With wholesome learning delivered regarding criminal advocacy and trial-court processes in Delhi, this meticulously planned 7-day training by subject-matter experts including APP Yogita Kaushik, Delhi Police Sub-Inspector Kiran Sethi, Advocate Manish Kumar was conceptualized and moderated by NET-qualified Asstt. Prof. Apoorva Thakur.
