AAP leader Shelly Oberoi appointed the Mayor of Delhi
Shelly Oberoi of AAP was appointed on Wednesday as the mayor of Delhi. She is 39 years old and previously was an assistant professor at Delhi University with good academic background. Here we get to know more about our current mayor – Shelly Oberoi.
Shelly was elected to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi aka MCD from Patel Nagar’s ward Number 86. Oberoi is a 39-year-old assistant professor at DU with a lifetime membership of the Indian Commerce Association. It is known that she received her Doctorate in Philosophy from the School of Management Studies (SOMS), under the umbrella of Delhi University and Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). She also did BCom. from Janki Devi Memorial College of Delhi University.
Shelly Oberoi is also an achiever of best paper awards in various national as well as international conferences and has been victorious of a Gold medal (Prof Manubhai Shah Award) at an ICA Conference. As we all know that the Delhi Mayor election was anticipated and three failed attempts to elect the mayor had failed.
She emerged victorious after defeating Deepali Kumari by 269 votes in the MCD election and also dominated Rekha Gupta to finally become the mayor. As per the conditions, the MCD has elected five mayors in the last five years, starting with a woman. An elected councilor from the scheduled caste will get the post in the third year.
The Supreme Court on February 17, Wednesday, demanded that alderman, members nominated by the lieutenant governor will not be allowed to release votes in the mayor elections in an important win for the Aam Aadmi Party. The party has previously claimed that the nominated members were one-time associates of the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) which could have led to unjust mayoral polls.
