BJP: vaccination center run by MCDs shut down by AAP government

The BJP accused the Delhi government on Wednesday of attempting to paralyze the city’s party-led municipal corporations by halting the delivery of funds, cutting budget allocation, and closing Covid vaccination center maintained by them.

Adesh Gupta, the Delhi BJP president, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, the Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, and BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi all claimed that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi was financially starving civic entities at a joint press conference.

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation, and the East Delhi Municipal Corporation are the three municipal corporations of Delhi (MCDs).
According to Bidhuri, the Delhi government has shut down all MCD-run Covid vaccination center after “colluding with private health care institutions.”

He said, “The MCDs were running 200 vaccination centers, and over 10 lakh people were vaccinated there. But the government after colluding with private hospitals shut all the MCD-run vaccination centers and now people are forced to pay for vaccine at private hospitals.Â

Had the Delhi government provided us with vaccines in time, people would have got vaccinated for free at our MCD-run vaccination centers and would not have to go to private hospitals and pay for it,” Bidhuri added.

The BJP also accused the AAP of harboring “political grudges” against the three municipal governments.

On the alleged fall in financial allocations to MCDs, he said, “Not only this, where earlier as per the third Delhi finance commission, the Delhi government was giving 16.50 percent share of the tax to civic bodies. Now, as per the fifth Delhi finance commission, MCD’s share has been reduced to 12.50 percent only.”

Since 2015, the AAP government has been utilizing finances in this manner to “torture” the MCDs, according to Gupta. He said that the Delhi government treated municipal corporation officials unfairly.

While the Delhi government is paying Rs 1 crore in compensation to the families of its employees who died as a result of Covid, Gupta claims that it is playing “politics” with the deaths of MCD “corona warriors.”

The BJP lawmakers accused the Kejriwal administration of failing to provide oxygen, personal protective equipment kits, and other Covid-essentials to municipal hospitals.
