On April 26th, 2023, Wednesday, the Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese announced that Australia will host the Quad Leaders’ Summit on May 24th in Sydney. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India will be travelling to Australia in May to participate in the Quad Leaders’ Summit. The Summit will include the leaders of India, Australia, the United States, and Japan. This is the first time that Australia is hosting a Quad Leaders’ Summit in Sydney.
“I am honoured to declare that for the first time Australia will be hosting the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Sydney on May 24,” tweeted the PM, Anthony Albanese. The declaration of this Quad summit was made during the combined press conference hosted by PM Narendra Modi along with the counterpart of Australia in March when the latter was on a four-day visit to India. “ “The members of Quad include both countries Australia as well as India. I thanked PM Albanese for inviting me to Australia for the Summit of Quad Leaders in May. Earlier in September, India has also invited him for the G20 Summit,” said PM Modi.
The Summit of Quad Leaders devoted towards the contribution of a steady as well as successful Indo-Pacific that guaranteed the development, security and growth for all. The leaders of Quad Group will be meeting in Australia on May 24, while earlier they have also met on four occasions. The importance of the group in the region has expanded due to its sharp interest in sustainable and inclusive growth of the economy and also encouraging connections between Quad members as well as Non-Quad members.
The leaders of different countries participating in the Quad Summit, will have a conversation on how the Quad can work with the partners and regional groupings, also including the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Pacific Islands Forum, to strengthen the cooperation as well as shape the region. The Quad is a strategic forum consisting of India, Japan, Australia, and the US. The primary purpose of Quad is to create new strategies to keep the sea routes in the Indo-Pacific region.
