Grenade attack blast reported near Army camp in Pathankot
A grenade blast was reported near the Indian Army’s Triveni Gate in Pathankot in the early morning hours on Monday. Police informed that some unidentified motorcyclists lobbed the grenade when a marriage procession was passing from the area and the police force was rushed to the spot to keep a check on the CCTV footage, informed the Pathankot SSP.
“A grenade blast took place near Triveni Gate of an Army camp in Pathankot. Further investigation is underway. CCTVs footage will be probed,” Pathankot SSP Surendra Lamba was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
The officials said that the assailants came on a bike and hurled the grenade. Further, the police have become more aware and all police check-posts have been put on alert to make sure that nothing like this happens in the future. Moreover, officials further added that no one was injured in the attack, and parts of the grenade were recovered from the site by the local police personnel. Further investigation is in progress and the CCTV footage is being verified by the investigative officials.
For quite some time now, it has been noticed that Pathankot has been on the radar of terrorists. Five years ago, Pathankot Air Force Station was attacked by six heavily armed terrorists which killed seven security personnel and a civilian. The Pathankot Air Force Station is a part of the Western Air Command of the Indian Air Force.
The attack, which was reportedly carried out by Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), had heightened the tensions between India and Pakistan. “Pakistan is our neighboring country. We want good relations with not just Pakistan but with all our neighbors. We also want peace, but if there is any terror attack on India, we will give a befitting reply,” Rajnath Singh, who was the Union Home Minister then, had said.
In June this year, two explosions occurred in the high-security technical area of Jammy Air Force station, and following the same two personnel had sustained minor injuries in the incident.
