Man lynched for Sacrilege attempt at Golden Temple

An unidentified man who was trying for a Sacrilege attempt in Sikh’s holiest shrine- The Golden Temple, was hacked to death by the pilgrims. 

An unidentified man, on Saturday, tried a Sacrilege attempt at the Golden Temple and was lynched by the devotees present there at the spot. The man allegedly stepped inside the sanctum sanctorum of the Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) in Amritsar, Punjab. The man, as per Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, entered the central closure where Guru Granth Sahib is placed, picked up a sword, and committed sacrilege. The man’s act was caught on live television as the prayers are regularly broadcasted by a regional channel. 

Soon after the man was caught by the people present at the spot, he was grabbed and beaten to death by the angry people and SGPC members present there, before the cops could have arrived. As per the cops, the man dressed in a brown suit rushed towards the holy book, bypassed the railing and trampled the rumala, picked up the diamond sword before he was grabbed by the people. 

The incident comes a few months before Punjab will be going to the polls. The incident has tense the situation in the state and has given birth to various conspiracy theories. Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal expressed his “shock and disbelief” at the incident and alleged a deep-rooted conspiracy. Badal said that it is not believable that a single person could carry out this act and labeled it as a deep-rooted conspiracy. Badal also lashed out at the Congress-led government and said Only the other day, there was a shocking incident of gutka packets being thrown in the holy lake [around the Golden Temple]. But no one did anything nor took any steps to prevent such a heinous crime from happening. What are the intelligence agencies doing?”

The Channi-led Congress government in Punjab has ordered an SIT to probe the matter.
