Ola pushes back a new date to book electric scooters under pressure to ‘deliver’

The buying window for Ola Electric was supposed to open today. Customers will be able to take test rides starting this month, and S1 and S1 Pro electric scooters will be delivered soon after. The wait to acquire an Ola Electric scooter has grown lengthier, with the electric two-wheeler maker from Tamil Nadu putting back the new buying window until next month. Ola Electric said in a statement on Sunday that it is “busy completing existing orders” for its S1 and S1 Pro electric scooters, citing “record demand.”

The EV maker has stated that the buying window will now open on December 16, rather than November 1, as previously announced.ÂWe will be opening our purchase window for fresh orders on 16th December, 2021. We will reach out to you in the coming weeks to schedule your test ride,” read the statement Ola Electric shared with its customers.

For two days in September, Ola Electric has allowed bookings for the S1 and S1 Pro electric scooters at a cost of $499. In those two days, Ola Electric claimed to have received bookings worth over Rs. 1,100 crore. Ola just stated that, for the first time since its August 15 launch, it will begin offering test rides of its electric scooters on November 10. It also stated that the final payment for the S1 and S1 Pro e-scooters will be postponed until November, without specifying a specific date.

Earlier this year, the Ola S1 and S1 Pro electric scooters were released. Ola Electric’s S1 electric scooter has sparked a lot of interest in the Indian automotive sector, and it’s the first of numerous battery-powered possibilities the business has planned. The Ola S1 is priced at Rs. 1 lakh (ex-showroom), while the S1 Pro is priced at Rs. 1.30 lakh.

On a single charge, the S1electric scooter is said to have a range of roughly 120 kilometres. It comes in ten colour variations and is powered by an 8.5kW electric motor and a 3.97kWh battery pack. The S1 Pro electric scooter has a range of 180 kilometres on a single charge and a top speed of 115 kilometres per hour. The Ola Future Factory, which is located in Tamil Nadu, is now home to the S1 electric scooters. According to corporate executives, it has a stated capacity of rolling out one unit every two seconds over a 500-acre area. The facility’s staff is completely made up of women, and when it reaches full capacity, Ola Electric will employ 10,000 people, making it the world’s largest women-only factory.
