PM Modi to provide 10 lakh Govt jobs in 18 months under mission mode

Referring to the hovering rate of unemployed youth in India, which is above 20 percent, the government on 14th June, Tuesday, announced that it would employ ten lakhs people under “mission mode” over the next one and a half years, a period that ends barely 4-5 months just before the Modi government completes its tenure. The government’s decision comes amidst the often criticism from the opposition on the issues relating to unemployment. They pointed out many vacant posts in different government sectors have been marked. Hours after the announcement, Home Minister Amit Shah begins the steps to fill up vacancies in various departments.

The Prime Minister’s Office tweeted, “PM Narendra Modi reviewed the status of Human Resources in all departments and ministries and instructed that recruitment of 10 lakh people be done by the Government in a mission mode in next 1.5 years.” Union Home Minister Amit Shah said in a tweet that the foundation of New India is the power of youth, and PM Modi is continuously working towards it. He further states that Narendra Modi’s announcement to provide 10 lakh jobs in government and ministries in a mission mode in 18 months will instill new hope and confidence in the youth.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also tweeted that the decision to recruit 10 lakh youths came after reviewing various GoI departments and ministries. She also welcomed this decision with open arms. Narendra Singh Tomar, the country’s agriculture minister, defined the announcement as a “historic decision” and termed it an “interest of the youth.”

The Quarterly Bulletin of Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS), released by the Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation(MoSPI), says that the current weekly status of the youth unemployment rate stood at 20.8 percent in urban areas during the three months from October to December 2021. The annual PLFS report by the MoSPI shows that the overall youth unemployment rate from July to June 2021-22 stood at 12.9 percent, 18.5 percent in urban areas, and 10.7 percent in rural areas.
