RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat stirs a Controversy about Casteism in India; says “Pandits created Caste System and not Gods”

RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat recently created a mega controversy about Casteism in India with his remark in which he claimed that the Hindu Caste System was created by Pandits/Priests and not by Gods.

Addressing an event at the auditorium of Ravindra Natya Mandir on the auspicious occasion of the 647th birth anniversary of Saint Shiromani Ravidas,  the Sarsanghchalak or the RSS Chief Maohan Bhagwat stirred a massive controversy with his remarks in which he stated “The truth is God. Whatever the name, ability and honour, everybody is the same and there are no differences. What some Pandits say on the basis of Shaastras is a lie.”

Praising Saint Ravidas on his 647th Birth Anniversary, Bhagwat said that Saint Ravidas has a great stature in Indian Society, even greater than Tulsidas, Kabir and Surdas, which is the reason why he is considered Saint Shiromani. Bhagwat went on to state that “Saint Ravidas gave four mantras to the society — truth, compassion, inner purity and continuous hard work and effort.” Adding further he said, “Pay attention to all that it happening around you but don’t leave you religion under any circumstances. While the manner of conveying the religious messages are different, the messages, themselves, are one and the same. One should practice his or her religion without malice for other faiths.”

Bhagwat further went onto to say that “”Although he (Saint Ravidas) couldn’t win over the Brahmins in Shastrath, he was able to touch many hearts and made them believe in God and that we are misled by caste superiority illusion and this illusion has to be set aside.”

Mohan Bhagwat who is the head of RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh), the parent organisation of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), stirred a massive controversy with his remarks on Casteism in India. Soon as the video of Bhagwat’s speech went viral on the Social Media, the netizens started a scathing attack on him with people questioning his intentions.

The move seems to have angered a number of Brahmins and Pandits who are generally perceived to be loyal supporters of the ruling BJP. The move could hurt the BJP as the party will be competing in Legislative Assembly elections in 9 states this year.
