Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, on Wednesday, late in the evening, met Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister at his official residence. The meeting lasted for more than an hour with farm laws being the focus of the discussion.
Congress strongman Captain Amarinder Singh, who is now being sidelined in the party and was made to resign as the CM of Punjab, met Amit Shah. The meeting, on Wednesday, came as no surprise as there was already speculation that Captain had arrived in Delhi to meet the top brass of BJP. The meeting took place at 6A, Krishna Menon Marg, New Delhi, the official government residence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
According to Captain himself, the farm laws were briefly discussed in the meeting and former Punjab CM requested Amit Shah to repeal the three farm bills and provide a solution to the farmerÂs protest that has been going on for about 10 months. Amarinder took to Twitter and wrote, ÂMet Union Home Minister Amit Shah Ji in Delhi. Discussed the prolonged farmerÂs agitation against #FarmLaws & urged him to resolve the crisis urgently with the repeal of the laws & guarantee MSP, besides supporting Punjab in crop diversification. #NoFarmersNoFood.Â
The meeting also comes at a time when Captain has been aggressive in his attack on the Congress party and Navjot Singh Sidhu in particular. He is rumored to join Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) anytime soon. As per few media persons present outside ShahÂs residence, Singh didnÂt leave in his convoy after the meeting but instead stayed at ShahÂs home a few more hours. Some even said that he had gone to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg along with Shah. Rumors are rife that Captain has been offered the berth of the Union Agriculture Minister if he wishes to join the Saffron party.
With this meeting, Amarinder Singh has also given a hint to the Gandhis that all his options are open and he might switch camps. Senior Congress Leader, Kapil Sibal, indirectly targeted the Congress High Command by saying that those leaders who were close to Âthem have left the party while Âwe, who are not considered close to them are still standing by Âthem. He even went to say that we know who is making the decision but we still donÂt know who are calling the shots. Congress Lok Sabha MP, Manish Tewari also said that Punjab is a border state and this type of sad affair only makes Pakistan happy and that this infighting could have been handled gracefully.Â
With Punjab going to the Elections in about a few months and Congress imploding, AAP and BJP are likely to gain from this infighting. CaptainÂs next move is yet to be seen but one thing is sure, there will be a lot of political drama in the upcoming days.Â
