Renowned actor and screenwriter Shiv Kumar Subramaniam passed away in Mumbai today. The shocking news broke on the internet on 11 April as filmmaker Ashoke Pandit took it on the internet and grieved about losing the famous star, friend, and colleague too soon. “Extremely shocked and pained to know about the tragic demise of our dear friend, a great actor and a brilliant human being Shiv Subramaniam. My heartfelt condolences to his wife Divya. May God give you enough energy to face this tragedy” tweeted Ashoke Pandit.
The filmmaker shared the news in grief and confirmed his demise along with the details of his last rites on social media. As per Pandit, Shiv’s last rituals will be done in Mumbai’s Amboli Crematorium on April 11. Director Hansal Mehta also paid tribute to Subramaniam and honoured his contribution to cinema by bidding him adieu in his own words. He wrote “Terrible news to wake up to. Shiv Subramaniam gone. Heartbreaking.”

The late actor shared the screen with Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor in the blockbuster film 2 States and he was also remembered for his work in films like Parinde (1989) and Hazaron Khwahishen Aisi (2005), both of which won ‘The Best Screenplay’ and ‘The Best Story Filmfare’ awards respectively. The actor also played a lead role in the TV series ‘Mukti Bandhan’ and also won an ITA Award for Best Actor in a Negative Role in 2011.
Apart from being an actor, the 52 years old artist was also a screenwriter and has written screenplays for some acclaimed feature films like 1942: A Love Story (1994), Chameli (2003), Teen Patti (2010), and Kaminey (2009), etc.
Subramaniam’s demise was sudden and the cause of his death is still unknown. He also lost his only son, Jehan, to a brain tumour 2 months back making his unexpected departure even more tragic. The actor was last seen in the film ‘Meenakshi Sundeshwar’ which was featured on Netflix, for which he received many praises including critical acclaim. While B-Town mourns the loss of the brilliant actor, he will definitely be missed for his performances and amazing cinematic skills.
