Ganesh Chaturthi 2022: The festival that marks the arrival of happiness and prosperity

According to the Hindu calendar, Ganesha Chaturthi or Vinayak Chaviti is celebrated on Chaturthi Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada. The festival begins on 31st August this year, ends on 9th September, and is celebrated with much joy across the country. The people believe that during this festival, Lord Ganesha arrives on earth himself, along with his two wives – Riddhi and Siddhi, to bless the people of India with his wisdom and prosperity. Ganpati Maharaj is the younger son of Devon Ke Dev Mahadev and Mata Parvati, who has been blessed with grandeur knowledge and success. The devotees also believe in Lord Ganesha’s power to endow blessings on them for any new advents in life. 

 

Lord Ganpati is known for his love for laddus and modaks, which are offered to the deity during the ten days of the feast. The divinity is also known as the remover of obstacles; that is why people pray to him when they are in distress. He has a great number of devotees in India and various believers around the world. Every year many people bring Ganesha’s statues and place them in their temples, host feasts, and offer prayers to incense positivity and purpose in life. The festival ends on Anant Chaturdashi of the Chaturthi with the ceremonial Ganesh Visarjan. “Ganpati Bappa Morya, Agle Baras Tu Jaldi Aa” is among the most popular slogans enchanted at the time of Ganpati Visarjan (Ganesh murti immersion) in the sea, which is believed to be a goodbye procession for the Lord of wisdom, held by hundreds of people in a locality.  

 

Every year this festival is celebrated with zeal and thrill throughout the subcontinent of India. Some of the famous customs of this occasion include Ganesha Sthapana, temple decorations, carols singing, grand feasts, sweets and Visarjan, with dhol and dance. Huge processions are planned, and people come on the streets to farewell the divine lord by playing with colours and water as well. According to ancient history, this time of year is popular for starting new businesses, new journeys or beginnings in life as the Lord himself majestically blesses it.
