Mental health is one of the most important aspects of our lives. It determines the kind of thought process one possesses. Some of the subtle human aspects, which are part of mental health, are emotions, instincts, impulses, consciousness, memory, behavior, and so on. Mental health is as important as our physical health and grooming. It can be defined as a state of well-being, in which every individual realizes their own potential, can cope with the normal stress of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and are able to make a contribution to their community.
Illnesses related to mental health commonly are stress, anxiety, depression, OCD, aggression, substance abuse, insomnia, trauma, panic, phobia or overthinking, etc. and these can be managed, with just the right treatment/therapy. Many people feel ashamed about having such issues, but they can always talk it out with their loved ones, or seek help from professionals. Some self-practices can turn out to be positively impactful as well. Things like staying active, eating well, drinking sensibly, self-acceptance, getting involved in creative activities etc.
Dr. Shubham Shree believes that acknowledging ownÂs emotions can help make changes better. We must give space and time to ourselves, take necessary actions in order to modify behavior, and work towards self-improvement. ItÂs just not about ourselves, but we must also try to understand others by acknowledging their body language, and emotional literacy, and give them love, assurance, motivation, empathy, being a good listener to them, and so on.As the month of May is observed as mental health awareness month Dr. Shree organized a series of mental health talks and counseling sessions for sensitizing common people about mental health specially in regard to COVID crisis. Her awareness talks on issues like what mental health is all about, how and when to seek help, what are the effects of pandemic on various age groups and sections of people, how to develop resilience and positive mindset, how to help people in the time of grieving and trauma, self-care techniques and relaxation tips etc. And were thoroughly appreciated and liked among the youths.
Ever since the COVID pandemic, there have been several cases of PTSD, among many individuals. Especially due to the loss of their loved ones. The experiences among people watching the cremation of their loved ones, or being admitted in the ICU at hospitals, have led to grieving and stress regarding the same. A lot of medical professionals have been experiencing flashbacks of the condition of the patients at the hospitals, leading them to have anxiety, panic attacks, insomnia, grief reactions, nightmares, not feeling like indulging in their daily activities, and so much more. Even the lockdown has impacted several individuals, having being isolated, and not being able to visit their loved ones. We must offer love and compassion to such individuals, and ensure that they donÂt stress much. Hope and faith are to very useful resources in these harsh times.
In order to maintain a positive mental health, Dr. Shubham believes that negative experiences can only be healed by creating positive events in life. One must take responsibility, and be courageous enough to accept things, develop resilience and practice gratitude. ItÂs ultimately in our hands to choose the quality of life we have. We must feed our mind with what we really want, and let the universe run its course. Making mental health a priority is a must.
