Sushma Swaraj Who Lent Human Touch To External Affairs Ministry Passes Away At 67

Senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj has been admitted to AIIMS after suffering a heart attack on Tuesday evening. She is in a critical condition and is in an emergency.

BJP leaders Dr Harshvardhan and Nitin Gadkari have reached AIIMS to meet her.

A star minister during Modi government’s first stint, Sushma Swaraj did not contest the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and chose to sit out of the government this year on account of her health.

Swaraj, who was for the Bharatiya Janata PartyÂs most prominent woman face, did not contest the recently held Lok Sabha elections in which the party won a massive majority. Last November, she had announced she would not contest the general elections.

Swaraj was perhaps the most ‘millennial’ minister the Indian government has ever had. From being tagged the ‘supermom’ of India by Washington Post to becoming one of the most-followed politicians on Twitter, the late external affairs minister had truly struck a chord with young and old alike with her round-the-clock social media presence, eagerness to help, and ready wit on social media.

She took a personal interest in resolving minor issues like issuance of visa to the needy and getting relief to Indians in distress. She built an Indian human capital abroad and the response was an outpouring of support for the Modi government from the non-resident Indian community.
