PM Modi reiterates cooperation to Bangladesh in Health sector,  personally greets PM Sheikh Hasina

On the occassion of Eid Âul-Azha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated India’s proposal to Dhaka for capacity building in health sector amidst pandemic Covid crisis. Prime Minister Modi has written a personal letter to his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina, greeting her on the eve of Eid celebrations.

Earlier following outbreak of Corona India had sent two tranches of emergency medical supply consisting of 1 lakh hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) tablets and 50,000  sterile surgical latex gloves .First tranches of emergency medical assistance consisting of 30thousand  surgical masks and 15 thousand head cover to Bangladesh .India had requested to send a medical team to Dhaka for any assistance and offered cooperation in health sector. In the month of April  and May, PM Modi had telephonic conversations with PM Hasina on the issue of cooperation on combating Corona Virus.

First telephonic conversation was on April 29 and the last one on May 25 to convey Eid-ul-Fitr greetings and on that occasion he offered India’s commitment to help out Bangladesh to combat Corona pandemic.

On June 7, China sent a medical experts to Dhaka and showing a rare protocol gesture Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. A.K.Abdul Momen received the medical team personally.  It created a little curiosity in the South Block about the move by Dhaka though they feel that its absolutely Dhaka’s prerogative to invite any country for taking advice for combating Corona menace. After visiting Bangladesh Chinese medical team recommended a human trial of corona vaccine in Bangladesh which has been put on hold by the Government of Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, High Commission of India at Dhaka issued a statement to say that High Commissioner of India met Bangladesh Foreign Minister from time to time to discuss ongoing bilateral cooperation and exchange views on the development pertaining to the region. Now PM Modi in his letter to PM Hasina praised PM Hasina for steps taken in Bangladesh to combat Corona and he expressed his confidence  that Bangladesh will tide over these challenging times. On this occassion PM Modi said,” we remain available to support your efforts in any way .including through capacity building in health sector”.

India has plans to build referral Hospital in line All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Hospital in Bangladesh and will ensure specialised doctors for the patients. To give empahsis on India’s proposal PM Modi writes,”please accept the assurances of my highest considerations.”

While extending a ‘warm greetings ” on the occasion of Eid PM said,” festival of Eid-ul-Azha which is celebrated in several parts of India reminds us of our deep historical and cultural links .We hope that this festival will further enhance the spirit of peace and tolerance in our respective societies and promote fraternal ties between two countries.’
