World Pharmacist Day is observed on 25 September of every year, to remember and appreciate the important role that pharmacists play in healthcare systems around the world. Pharmacists Day is celebrated to support initiatives that highlight and support the contribution of pharmacists to improving global health. The theme of 2023 World Pharmacists Day is ‘Pharmacy Strengthens Health Systems’. It is celebrated in honour of the medical professionals who always do their best to ensure that medicines are delivered to those who need them and know how to take them in the right dose. Pharmacists play an important role in improving health care and the health system. World Pharmacists Day marks the anniversary of the inception of the FIP (International Pharmaceutical Federation) in 1912 and was adopted by the FIP Council in 2009. 

History

The history of World Pharmacists Day goes back to its beginning in 2009 at the Congress of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) in Istanbul, Turkey. This special day was created to highlight the important role pharmacists and pharmaceutical professionals play in healthcare. The annual World Pharmacists Day campaign is organised by FIP and the theme for each year is decided by the FIP office. In 2020, FIP launched Global Pharmacy Week, which extends the celebration to the entire pharmaceutical industry and comprehensively recognizes all areas of pharmacy.
