First Press Conference of Gautam Gambhir as the Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team

Currently, Gautam Gambhir is the most talked person in the cricketing corridors. The Indian veteran has recently been appointed as the head coach of the Indian team. Gambhir is known for his aggression and outspoken style. On Tuesday, 22nd July, he held his first press conference with the chief selector of the Indian team, Ajit Agarkar, where they both gave information about the team selected for the Sri Lanka tour and talked about many other issues, including Gambhir and Kohli’s personal relationship.

It is worth mentioning that during the IPL, Virat and Gambhir remained in the news for their aggressive style. Both have been seen aggressively fighting against each other many times. Cricket fans often call both enemies.

However, Gambhir ended all these rumors in his press conference and said that he respects Virat Kohli a lot as a player. Virat is a world-class player, and his achievements in world cricket in the last 15 years are unbelievable. Looking at the future of Virat and Rohit, Gambhir said that these two are the modern-day greats. India needs them in the upcoming ODI Champions Trophy, Australian Test series, and World Test Championship. Referring to the 2027 World Cup, he said that the decision will be taken after the fitness of these two players.

He added, “The most important thing for me is that players will always have my back. A happy dressing room is important. I don’t want to complicate things. I’m taking over a very successful team.”

Ajit Agarkar, Chairman of the BCCI selection committee, explained the decision to appoint Suryakumar Yadav as India’s new T20I captain over Hardik Pandya. Agarkar said Hardik remains a crucial player for the team, but his fitness affects the decision.

Some other key points that were discussed in the Press Conference: –

  • Rest is given to Ravindra Jadeja; he is not excluded from ODI plans
  • Shami will make his comeback from the Bangladesh test series
  • Rishabh Pant is our first-choice wicketkeeper for all three formats
  • Youngsters need to score more consistently
  • Surya Kumar Yadav will only play T20s
  • We are looking forward to fitting Gill into all three formats.
