Justice Satish Chandra Sharma took oath as CJ of Delhi High Court

On Tuesday Justice Satish Chandra Sharma took the oath as the Cheif Justice of the Delhi High Court. The ceremony was held at the Raj Niwas, the LG’s secretariat. Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena also witnessed the oath to the 60-year-old Justice Sharma. The ceremony was attended by various dignitaries including the Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) MLAs Somnath Bharti, and Madan Lal. Numerous senior judges and advocates also marked their presence at the ceremony. 

Earlier Justice Satish Chandra Sharma was serving as the Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court and the Central government notified him about his transfer on June 19. After Chief Justice D.N. Patel retired from the Delhi High Court in March 2020, Justice Vipin Sanghi served as the ‘acting chief justice from March 13 to June 27, which equals to 107 days. Now at present, he has been given the position of the Chief Justice of Uttrakhand High Court. 

Justice Satish Chandra Sharma was born on the 30th of November in 1961, in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur district. He completed his schooling and graduation from his hometown itself and thereafter in 1984 he obtained an LLB degree with three university gold medals. In September 1984 he was enrolled as an advocate and practiced advocacy in constitutional, civil, and criminal matters before the Madhya Pradesh High Court at Jabalpur. After that, he was appointed as Additional Central Government Counsel in 1993 and thereafter, senior panel counsel by the Government of India in 2004. Then in the year 2003, he was designated as a senior advocate by the Madhya Pradesh High Court at the young age of 42.

After that, he was transferred to different courts. Justice Satish Chandra Sharma is an enthusiastic reader as well and has made a name with his contributions to various universities. He is in association with the National Law University and is also on the Advisory Board of National Law Institute University, Bhopal. In addition to this, he has also published a lot of research articles and papers.
