Loksabha Election 2024: On Friday, the Congress party released its Manifesto for the upcoming General Elections 2024. Party National President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and Sonia Gandhi named the Manifesto ‘Justice Document’ or ‘Nyay Patra’ at the AICC headquarters in New Delhi.

In its manifesto, the Congress emphasised Paanch Nyay, or the ‘five pillars of justice’, which included ‘Yuva Nyay’, ‘Naari Nyay’, ‘Kisaan Nyay’, ‘Shramik Nyay’, and ‘Hissedari Nyay’. It also mentioned its promises to the people as part of its Lok Sabha election promises.

Key pointers in Congress’ manifesto, ‘Nyay Patra’:

  • The Congress announced it will replace approximately 30 lakh vacancies in sanctioned posts at various national government levels.
  • The Congress sets the national minimum wage at ₹400 per day.
  • The Rajasthan model of cashless insurance, up to ₹25 lakh, would be implemented for universal healthcare.
  • The Congress would provide legal assurances for the MSP announced by the government each year, as recommended by the Swaminathan Commission.
  • The Congress will ensure that minorities, like all citizens, can choose clothing, food, language, and personal laws. We shall advocate for the revision of individual laws. Such reforms must be implemented with the community’s cooperation and approval.
  • The Congress has stated that it will undertake a nationwide socio-economic and caste census to enumerate castes and sub-castes and their socioeconomic status and propose a constitutional amendment to increase the 50% quota cap for SC, ST, and OBC.
  • “We will abolish application costs for government examinations and positions. Due to widespread unemployment, as a one-time measure of alleviation, the amount owed, including unpaid interest, on all student educational loans as of March 15, 2024, will be cancelled, and the government will compensate the banks, according to the Congress platform.
  • After extensive deliberation, Congress will introduce legislation to recognize civil unions between LGBTQIA+ couples.
