A day after being kicked off an aircraft, Congressman Pawan Khera offered an unqualified apology, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted on Friday. Congressman Pawan Khera was implicated and has offered a complete apology regarding the name-calling of the Prime Minister’s ancestral middle name – ‘Damodar’. CM of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a recent tweet that he hopes that in the future everyone will respect public spaces by restricting to use of foul or cuss language, especially in a political debate.

The Congress said on Thursday that its top official Pawan Khera was removed from a plane heading to Raipur, where he was supposed to attend the party’s plenary assembly. The Assam Police had detained Khera, the reports said.

According to some unknown sources, Khera was denied permission to fly to Raipur after the Assam Police issued a directive. On the scene to capture the Congress member were representatives from the Assam Police and the Airport Police. According to IGP L&O and Assam Police spokesperson Prasanta Kumar Bhuyan, Khera has reportedly been detained on charges of criminal conspiracy and inciting racial animosity because of his remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“In the Haflong police station in the Dima Hasao district of Assam, Congressman Pawan Khera was the target of a case. In order to take Pawan Khera into prison in connection with the crime, Assam Police deployed a team to Delhi, according to some news stories, as of Thursday.

The case against Khera was registered at the Haflong police station in Assam under different sections of the IPC, including 153 B (imputations, claims harmful to national interest), 500 (punishment for defamation), and 504 (intentional insult with intent to cause disturbance of the peace) (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace).

In his criticism of the government over the dispute surrounding the Gautam Adani-led business empire, Khera had referred to the prime minister as “Narendra Gautamdas Modi.” In Modi’s full name, Narendra Damodardas Modi, his middle name, Damodardas, which is common throughout the country, replaces his father’s name. The apparent gaffe was fiercely denounced by the BJP, who further charged Khera of making fun of the Prime Minister and his late father.
