Stones Thrown at two Ram Navami Processions in Gujarat’s Vadodara

Stones were hurled at a Ram Navami procession on March 30th, 2023, Thursday in the Fatehpura area of Gujarat’s Vadodara city. The officials mentioned, more than 22 people have been caught for allegedly pelting stones during a procession in the Fatehpura area and some people were injured in one of the incidents. Panjirgar mohalla was the first place where the stone pelting incident took place in the afternoon and Kumbharwada was the second place where the incident took place in the evening. 

 

Manoj Ninama, Joint CP, Vadodara said while talking to the media “Area domination and combining operations underway. Around 200 police personnel have been deployed. So far, 22 people have been detained in connection to the incident.” “Stones were pelted in Vadodara during the Ram Navami procession. Around 15-17, people have been caught and with the help of CCTV the accused are being identified,” said Harsh Sanghavi, Gujarat Home Minister. 

  

The procession on the occasion of Ram Navami, which took place in the Panjrigar mohalla had been organised by the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), while the other procession took place had been organised by the local residents of Kumbharwada. Manisha Vakil, Local BJP MLA was also a part of the procession which came under attack in Kumbharwada. A chariot carrying a Ram Idol was pulled away to a safe location, on the other hand, the videos of the people showed that they are running for shelter after the incident of stone hurling took place. Meanwhile, some vehicles got damaged but no one was injured in the whole incident and the procession passed ahead along its planned route under the police’s protection.

 

During the Ram Navami Procession, some anti-social elements tried to hurl stones. Police took prompt action as well as handled the matter very well. All the processions have been completed peacefully, Commissioner CP, Vadodara, Shamsher Singh said. He further added that Patrolling is being done, so far, they have detained more than 20 people and the police will take strict action against them. The incident of stone pelting occurred during the ‘Ram Navami Shobha Yatra’ in Vadodara. Also, the clashes were reported from Maharashtra Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar where a mob pelted stones and bottles filled with petrol at the temple which sparked violence and left 12 people injured including 10 policemen.
