Today we are going to talk about a topic that has always been in light and
surrounded by controversies it is FEMINISM or NARIVAAD.
According to Google, the definition of feminism is the advocacy of women’s
rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes.
The definition is very clear still the term is mostly misunderstood by
people, they feel that it is one of the topics which may get you surrounded by
controversy which could be true only if you donÂt have clarity about it.
We need to understand Feminism doesnÂt mean being anti-men but anti-patriarchy.
No one needs to be superior or inferior that the other one.
If described in one word it simply means equal opportunities and rights for
women in society. Now letÂs go back into history and understand how it all
started, you will be surprised to know that is all began with men who stood for
the rights of the women, and later on it was joined by women.
Savitribai Phule was the first woman to take initiative for the equal
rights of women in the society by opening the first school for girls in India
in 1848 and this is how the first step was taken towards the field of education
by women.
Also, Tarabai Shinde is the first person to write a book named STRI PURUSH
TULANA in 1882, which shows the comparison between women and men.
Earlier Feminism was about reforms on issues such as domestic violence,
maternity leave, equal pay, women’s suffrage, sexual harassment & sexual
violence, women to take decisions individually in context to family and
regarding pregnancy which includes abortion and consumption of contraceptives.
What we need to understand is a woman doesnÂt want you to protect them
instead they want you to be harmless.
They donÂt want free bus rides instead of wanting an equal salary at
workplaces.
They donÂt want you to keep their views and points on top and to be the
final ones instead they want at least to be heard and considered.
Feminism should not be just standing for the rights of women in society but
should also be about taking a stand for men and oppressed sections of the
society.
It should not be about making the privileged women more privileged instead
of working and standing for the underprivileged ones.
Feminism is about Him standing for HER
And SHE standing for HE
