2022 Assembly Elections Updates: Swami Prasad Maurya, Dharam Singh Saini, and five other MLAs who had resigned the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) earlier this week were welcomed into the Samajwadi Party on Friday. “Wickets gir rahe the (wickets were dropping),” SP head Akhilesh Yadav stated, referring to the BJP’s flurry of resignations.

Bhagwati Sagar (Bilhaur in Kanpur), Roshanlal Verma (Tilhar in Shahjahanpur), Vinay Shakya (Bidhuna in Auraiya), Brijesh Prajapati (Tindwari in Bahraich), and Mukesh Verma are the five BJP MLAs who have joined the SP (Shikohabad in Firozabad). Amar Singh Chaudhary, a legislator from the Apna Dal (Sonelal), has also joined SP.

Joginder Singh Mann, a former minister and a prominent Schedule Caste (SC) leader of the Congress in Phagwara, resigned from the Congress and his position as Chairman of the Punjab Agro Industries Corporation on Friday, ending his five-decade association with the party (Cabinet rank).

In other news, the Election Commission will publish the first part of the UP polls notification today. Nominations for the first phase must be submitted by January 21 (Friday).
