“Revolutionary Greetings” Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan congratulated Xi on Third Term

Pinarayi Vijayan

On March 12, 2023, Sunday, Kerala Chief Minister and CPI(M) leader, Pinarayi Vijayan congratulated Xi Jinping for his re-election to the top post for a record-third time as President of China. On Friday, the parliament of China unanimously appointed Xi Jinping as the Chinese President for the third time. In October last year,  Xi Jinping was re-elected as the leader by the once-in-a-five-year Congress of the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC)  after Mao Zedong , the party founder, continued in power beyond the two-five-year terms.

Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan extended wishes to Xi “for the continued efforts to achieve prosperous China.” The veteran Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader took to Twitter to praise China. “Revolutionary greetings to President Xi Jinping for his appointment as the President of the People’s Republic of China for the third time. It is truly impressive that China has emerged as an important voice in global politics. Wishing the best of luck for the continued efforts to achieve a more prosperous China,” Pinarayi Vijayan tweeted.

As per the news report, thousands of delegates at the National People’s Congress (NPC) in Beijing voted for Xi as President of China. However, the process was just a formality in ‘China’s rubber-stamp parliament’ after Xi Jinping was confirmed as chief of the ruling Communist Party twice a decade. The National People’s Congress cleared the way for Xi to potentially rule for life, by ditching the term limits previously. Vice Premier Han Zheng was also appointed as Vice President of China, voted by delegates. Setting up a new financial sector watchdog and national data agency, including a set of reforms was approved at the NPC in a move that might herald tighter restrictions on key sectors of China.

As the relationship between India and China is worsening day by day. Both India and China are facing off against each other for their disputed border, in the Himalayan region. The main cause of the war which has been going on for a year basically was a dispute over the sovereignty of the widely separated Aksai Chin and Arunachal Pradesh border regions. Aksai Chin, claimed by India to belong to Ladakh, and by China to be part of Xinjiang, contains an important road link that connects the Chinese region of Xinjiang and Tibet. Keeping this all aside Kerala CM, Mr. Vijayan congratulated Xi Jinping on being elected as the President of China for the third time.
