Bharat Jodo Yatra: Rahul Gandhi resumes yatra from Hatli Morh, Jammu & Kashmir

New Delhi (January 21th, 2023): On Friday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi started the Bharat Jodo Yatra from Hatli Morh in the border district of Jammu and Kashmir. Several prominent leaders including Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut also joined the foot march. The yatra today was, however, delayed by one hour and fifteen minutes due to the winter rains. Despite all of this, multiple Congress workers and supporters were carrying the tricolour and showed up hours before the commencement of the yatra that will cover 25 km before a halt at Chadwal, Kathua district for the night. There will be no yatra on Saturday, as per the grand old Congress party.

This is the last leg of the Bharat Jodo Yatra which commenced from Kanyakumari on September 7, 2022. Owing to this, on Wednesday, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge invited 21 significant non-NDA parties to join hands on the culmination of the yatra in Srinagar on January 30. Many Congress leaders including party’s Jammu and Kashmir unit president Vikar Rasool Wani and G A Mir accompanied Rahul Gandhi during this final leg of the yatra. “I am going back to the place from where my family had gone to Uttar Pradesh. I believe that when one goes to his roots, he comes across many things to learn about himself, his people and the country,” Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet in Hindi.

The Bharat Jodo Yatra was initiated by Rahul Gandhi and M.K. Stalin, Tamil Nadu’s chief minister with an aim to protest against the politics of ‘bigotry, fear and prejudice,’ along with highlighting other issues like the economics of livelihood destruction, growing unemployment rate and increasing inequality. Till now the yatra has covered Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. Now that it has entered the last leg, that is, Jammu and Kashmir, activists and party members are looking forward to the Hath Se Hath Jodo Campaign that is scheduled to commence soon.
