Nuh violence: Tensions to arise in Haryana

Violence in Nuh District, Haryana

On Monday, Nuh, a town in Mewat near Gurugram once again faced violence between two groups. The clash started when Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s ‘Brij Mandal Jalabhiskek Yatra’ was stopped by young men of different communities near Khedla Mod in Nuh, and they started pelting stones on the yatra. Five people were killed and more than 50 people including policemen were injured in the stone pelting and fire shots. To control the situation police imposed a curfew and forced Section 144 of the Indian Penal Code in Nuh. Police also shut down the internet services in the areas of Nuh, Mewat, Faridabad, Sohna, Pataudi, and Manesar till August 2, Wednesday. By the morning of Tuesday, the violence had reached Sohna in Gurugram as well.

BJP district president Gargi Kakkar flagged off the Yatra from the civil lines area of Gurugram which was stopped due to stone pelting in Nuh. As stress takes over the state, there is a ban on the assembly of five or more people in the Gurugram, Palwal, Faridabad, and Rewari districts. Haryana’s Home Minister Anil Vij initiated a probe into the Nuh violence, according to him it was a pre-planned conspiracy by a group of people to harm the communal harmony of the state. Union Minister from Haryana Krishan Pal Gujjar made a statement on the violence and called it an unfortunate incident, in a tweet he said “We request the people of Haryana to maintain brotherhood. Strict action will be taken against those who will be responsible for the violence.”

The violence took a serious form when 2 home guards of the Haryana police died. 3 cops are also on a ventilator who suffered serious bullet injuries. The maximum damage happened near Badkali Chowk of Nuh where shops, houses, and vehicles have been burnt. Traders of the chowk claimed that the cost of the total damage is in crores, locals of the area also reported that there were no security personnel present in the area at the time of violence.

The DGP (Director General of Police) kept a close eye on the matter, “The priority is to restore peace in the areas, and we request everyone to not spread fake news about any incident. Those who are involved in this violence will not be spared and serious actions will be taken against them.”
