Captain Amarinder Singh to float his own party, BJP says ‘Ready for alliance’, Congress hits out at Singh

Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh announced a move to form his own party. BJP ready to ally while Congress hits out at Singh.

Breaking the long built suspense on his future political career, former Congressman announced that he will float his own party soon. Taking to twitter, media advisor of Captain Amarinder Singh, Raveen Thukral, on Tuesday, announced that Singh will soon launch his own political party. Thukral further added that they are hopeful of a seat arrangement with BJP and like-minded people in 2022 Punjab Assembly Polls if Farmer Protest is resolved.

Singh has also hinted that the prolonged farmers agitation over three centre farm laws may be heading towards a resolution soon, with the government holding talks with their representatives. His decision on accepting BJP as partner would depend on a satisfactory resolution of the farm laws issue. Captain on previous occasions, have met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and have appealed to him to find a solution to the farmer protest as early as possible.

It seems his Âfriend request has been accepted by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). “We are ready for an alliance with Captain Amarinder Singh,” said the BJP’s Punjab in-charge Dushyant Gautam. “Our doors are open for an alliance, though only our parliamentary board can take the decision,” Mr Gautam said. He further added thatthe BJP was always ready to join hands with outfits that are nationalistic, concerned about the country and concerned about national security.

The BJP said despite differences with Amarinder Singh when he was Chief Minister in the Congress government, it had common concerns. “We opposed him when he spoke against the welfare of the people of Punjab. But when it came to national security or border security, we kept praising him. He has been a soldier. We believe he is a good patriot,” Mr Gautam said.

Congress hit out at Singh for his new move. ÂHis (Singh’s) statement is really shocking. It seems he has killed the ‘secular Amarinder’ within him, AICC general secretary and Punjab incharge Harish Rawat said on Wednesday. ÂWho can forgive the BJP that has kept farmers at the borders for 10 months? Can Punjab forgive them for the manner in which farmers’ agitation has been dealt with? he said.

Captain Amarinder Singh had earlier tendered his resignation from the post of Punjab Chief Minister after falling out with Navjot Singh Sidhu and the Gandhis. He is yet to quit from Congress. With this new move, Captain has made the upcoming Punjab Assembly Elections very interesting.
