Deepak Kochhar Sent To Custody For Five Days

Deepak Kochhar, the former ICICI Bank MD and CEO, was sent to the custody of the Enforcement Directorate after he was discharged from a private hospital in Delhi after testing negative for COVID-19  till October 17. He was taken to Mumbai and produced before a special court where the ED announced his five-day custody.

He was arrested on 7th September in connection with the ICICI-Videocon loans case and was flown to Delhi for investigation. On 14th September Kochhar tested positive for Covid-19 and was undergoing treatment in a Delhi hospital.

The court ordered Kochhar to send to judicial custody and directed the agency to present him before it within two days after he gets discharge.

On Tuesday, the agency extended his custody further stating that probe in the case is yet to be completed.

Vijay Agarwal and Rahul Agarwal the lawyers of Kochhar, opposed for being him sent to ED custody stating that he is still weak and as per the hospitalÂs report requires at least rest of 2 weeks. They also requested that he needs post-COVID care as per the governmentÂs guidelines. Chanda Kochhar, the wife of Deepak Kochhar was also present in the court; she stated that her husband had suffered from the virus for almost three weeks and needs to have rest.

As Kochhar tested positive the court ordered to sent him to judicial custody and ordered to continue the probe. Earlier, his health was given priority and the custody was suspended.
