Bringing the much-acclaimed Poké Bowl trend to Belgium is Hawaiian Poké Bowl, a restaurant chain by three young twenty-something entrepreneurs, Ash Shah, Mattijas Hermans, and Albano Gozhina. With an initial foray made in 2018 in the capital city of Antwerp, Hawaiian Poké Bowl is now one of the trendiest places to eat in Belgium.

Although many may consider Hawaiian Poké Bowl to be a bold move the founders say, that this is simply because they arenÂt looking at the large scale and have not yet been able to understand the magnitude of the restaurant chain. On any given day around 300 to 400 Poké Bowls are made at each location and there are of course quite a few scattered around the country. They make an annual turnover of 7 million euros in 2020 and have 40 full-time employees since the start of the journey in 2018. As of now, there are 16 established restaurants in and around Belgium with plans of four more to be set up by the end of 2021. This is all part of an elaborate schedule according to which by the end of this year there should be at least 50 stalls. Hermans says that Hawaiian Poké Bowl is nothing but a healthy alternative to a fast-food chain. ÂOver the next 3 years we want to have 35 restaurants in Belgium and 20 in the Netherlands.Â, he adds.

The takeaway boom of the Hawaiian Poké Bowl is one of the winners during the corona crisis. Since the outbreak of a pandemic, the profitable company owners added ÂWe have returned to our core business, but have not closed a single store. We are rewarded for that, if you disappear from the street for three months, you no longer count”. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, the company has earned quite a profit and has even opened 10 more stalls. And in times like these, Hawaiian Poké Bowl surely provides a much-needed 20-minute vacation at the beach. This feeling of being at the beach is complemented by the fact that the food is amazingly fresh and made of the best ingredients sourced internationally.
