Kailash Kher: The Deep Indian Roots that Gained Bollywood Stardom & Beyond

When we dive into the world of iconic Indian vocalists, those who stir our emotions and transport us to ethereal realms, the name that readily springs to mind is none other than Kailash Kher. This Indian musical composer and singer crafts tunes that are deeply rooted in the rich traditions of Indian folk and Sufi music. Growing up in Nirgun Sangeet, Kailash’s childhood was infused with the rhythms of his father, Pandit Meher Singh Kher, and the spiritual wisdom of luminaries like Saint Kabir, Shri Guru Nanak, Saint Ravidas, and Guru Gorakhnath.

In 2017, Kailash Kher was honored with the esteemed Padma Shri award by the Indian government. His remarkable talent led to not one, but two Filmfare Awards for Best Male Playback Singer, one for the Hindi film ‘Fanaa’  (2006) and another for the Telugu film “Mirchi” (2013), accompanied by numerous other nominations. With his commanding vocals and distinctive musical approach, Kher has undeniably cemented his position as one of India’s foremost and most loved playback singers.

Kailash Kher’s road to Bollywood stardom was anything but easy. Yet, when his moment came, he dazzled! His breakout track “Rabba Ishq Na Hove” from ‘Andaaz’ grabbed attention, but it was ‘Allah Ke Bande’ from the lesser-known ‘Waisa Bhi Hota Hai Part II’ that cemented his star status, but to be honest that song does hit home. Beyond singing, he’s showcased his musical prowess in hits like ‘Chandni Chowk To China’ and ‘Dasvidaniya’, even penning lyrics for films like ‘Kaal’ and ‘Traffic Signal’. Kher’s journey proves that when passion meets opportunity it creates magic!

By 2014, he had given songs in over 20 Indian languages, from Malayalam to Rajasthani, Tamil, Telugu, Oriya, Sindhi, Gujarathi! With over 500 Bollywood tracks and a whopping 1,000+ radio and TV jingles to his name, his talent is mind-blowing. Remember the OG songs like ‘Teri Deewani’, ‘Saiyyan’, and ‘Piya Ghar Aavenge’? Pure gold! This man is the real GOAT!
