Iconic Comic Characters

Television has always been the prior source of entertainment for the audience. Over the past years, we have watched a lot of hit comic shows which made each and every one giggle and each show has its own unique style of presenting the storyline in front of the public. Television shows have always been a special part of our lives. Each and every character won’t be remembered by the audience. There is always something about that particular character, maybe their way of speaking, their body language, their way of dressing, or could be anything. Let’s take a ride to some of the memorable comic characters of Indian Television.

  1. Daya Jethalal Gadha-Tarrak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah

Disha Vakani aka Daya Ben is also recognized as a loud housewife. The character of Daya Ben is famous worldwide. Her screeching laughter, garba style, and who can forget Daya Ben’s iconic dialogue ‘Hey Maa!! Mata Ji’. She portrayed the role of an ideal housewife, who does not even take his husband’s name and refers to him as ‘Tapu Ke Papa’. Disha Vakani’s chemistry with her co-actor, Dilip Joshi who played the character of Jethalal was appreciated by the viewers. Daya’s accent, the way she speaks and her garba style has made her one of the best comic characters in Television shows.

  1. Roshesh Sarabhai -Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai

Rajesh Kumar aka Roshesh was one of the most unique characters in the whole series of the Sarabhai vs Sarabhai. Momma’s boy loved to write poems that no one liked to listen to at all. Indravadan Sarabhai, the father of Roshesh does not like him much but he was loved by his mother immensely. Roshesh duckish as well as an infantile way of speaking ‘momma’ rather than ‘mumma’ was the (USP) selling point of the show. It has been observed that Roshesh weirdest sense of writing poetry was inspired by his father only, but the way he adds power to the show was immensely unmatched.

  1. Mussadi Lal-Office Office

If you’re a 90s kid then there is no chance that you haven’t watched Office Office starring Pankaj Kapoor in the lead role. This particular show was one of the most popular shows of that time. Pankaj Kapoor portrayed the role of Mussadi Lal, a common man who was always asked for a bribe in order for his tasks to be completed. He was an honest man and wanted to fight against the corruption in his office as well as to finish the corruption. Talking about that one factor that sticks the viewers to watch the show, would be the acting skills of Pankaj Kapoor and his way of expressing sarcastic dialogue. He presented the life of a common middleman fighting each and every day.

  1. Praful and Hansa-Khichdi

Rajesh Mehta aka Praful Parekh, if you really want to meet someone who has zero IQ or no IQ at all you should meet Mr. Praful Parekh. His character was one of the most loved characters on Indian Television. Talking about Hansa’s character, Hansa’s English as well as Praful’s explanation of them were the major highlights of the show. Praful’s zero knowledge has made Babuji always mad at him, and fans can never get over Hansa’s Hello, How are you? Khaana Khake jana, Haan. Talking about the body language of Praful, everything was worth looking at, and his famous dialogue Hansaa, main hoon na. Nostalgia hits while you’re watching this show.

  1. Maya Sarabhai-Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai

Maya Sarabhai aka Ratna Pathak Shah, the high society sophisticated Maya was the heart of the show. Her way of portraying the character of Maya made that character an iconic one. Her off-shoulder blouses and chiffon saree made her look up to the mark, which made her look classy too. The only middle-class thing that she has was her daughter-in-law Monisha Sarabhai, who she never missed a chance to taunt, and her ending line of every sentence, ‘Don’t mind it Beta’. Ratna Pathak Shah played the role of Maya beautifully, no one can ever play that character better than her.
