The Congress-drove government in Puducherry lost its larger part following the removal of an MLA, the Central government mitigated Lieutenant General representative, Kiran Bedi of authoritative duties.Â
The choice to assuage Bedi is the finish of a long-running quarrel among her and V Narayanasamy, the Chief Minister of the Territory. The President has guided that Kiran Bedi will stop holding the workplace of the Lieutenant General of Puducherry and has delegated Tamilisai Soundararajan, legislative leader of Telangana, to release her from her duties.Â
According to the Chief Minister, Kiran BediÂs removal was Âa long pending demand of the Puducherry peopleÂ. He said, Âwas behaving in an autocratic manner, violating the rules of business, trying to run a parallel government, issuing independent orders against the wishes of the elected governmentÂ. Highly honored and inspiring Kiran Bedi had this expulsion coming when the decision by the Congress Government has lost its greater part after four of its MLAs resigned from the Assembly. Tamilisai Soundararajan has been given the additional charge as the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry till a permanent replacement will be announced.
The ruling Government Congress-DMK alliance and the opposition AIADMK-BJP alliance now have 14 MLAs each in the House currently and have a current effective strength of 28. While the Opposition demanded the governmentÂs resignation on Tuesday, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy said he retained majority support.
The former IPS officer, Kiran Bedi said, ÂI thank the Government of India for a lifetime experience in serving Puducherry as its Lieutenant Governor. I also thank all who worked with me closely. I can say with a deep sense of satisfaction that during this tenure ‘Team Raj Nivas’ diligently worked to serve the larger public interest. “Whatever was done was a sacred duty, fulfilling my constitutional and moral responsibilities. Puducherry has a very bright future. ItÂs now in the hands of the people. Wishing for a prosperous Puducherry,” she added as she bid farewell to the assembly.
