Top 5 All-time Picks in IPL Auction History

Indian Premier League is one of the most competitive leagues in the sports fraternity, and it is more than just cricket; it should be a magical mixture of fitness, amusement, and adventure. Coming out with a bang in 2008, the IPL is now cricket’s biggest carnival, bringing together elite cricketers, international stars and fans of passion, creating a fast-paced extravaganza.

The IPL is more than just a league since it combines a fast-paced T20 cricket movement, exhilarating settings at prominent stadiums, and a blend of global flavour. It is a platform where cricketing legends and rising talents collide in a whirlwind of sixes, breathtaking catches, and nail-biting finishes.

Along with the tournament, the IPL auction also has a significant buzz among cricket lovers, and every fan wants their respective favourite player to play for the team fans support. As the auction is just 2 weeks away, here is the list of top 5 all-time picks in IPL Auction history.

Top 5 All-time Picks in Ipl Auction History

1. Shaun Marsh

The veteran Australian left-hand batsman was picked by Kings XI Punjab, now Punjab Kings, in 2008 for just 12 Lakh INR, and the left-hander turned out to be the inaugural holder of Organe Cap. In just 11 matches with an average of 68.44, he scored 616 runs and led the team into the top 4. When Marsh was picked by KXIP, he was an unknown face in International cricket. Still, later on, he became a permanent member of the Australian side.

2. Yuzvendra Chahal

The mysterious Indian leg spinner was picked by the most followed IPL team, Royal Challenger Bangalore, in 2014 for 10 Lakh. Chahal is the all-time leading wicket-taker for RCB with 139 wickets. For almost 8 years, he was a go-to bowler for RCB captain and the most effective bowler in the middle overs. However, due to some miscommunication before the mega auction of 2022, he was released by RCB and picked by Rajasthan Royals.

3. Andre Russell

One of the most dangerous batters in the history of IPL was picked by Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014 for just 60 Lakh. The West Indian six-hitting machine turned out to be a 2 times Most Valuable Player for KKR in 2015 and 2019. He scored over 2000+ runs and took 95 wickets. He also topped the table for most sixes in 2019.

Since its inclusion, Andre Russell has been one of the key players for KKR and the biggest match-winner in the squad. Rumours are spreading that he was released by the management ahead of retention due to poor performance last year. Still, everyone knows what he is capable of.

4. Shane Watson

The legendary Australian opener and one of the greatest all-rounders cricket has ever seen, Shane Watson, was purchased by the inaugural champions of IPL, Rajasthan Royals, in 2008 for just 5 million. Watto became the Most Valuable Player in the season with 472 runs and 17 wickets. He took 50+ wickets, scored over 2000 runs for RR in his 8 years of service, and won the MVP award twice.

However, in 2015, a horrific incident shocked the cricket world when Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings were banned for 2 years facing corruption charges. When the franchise returned in 2018, they were unable to get Shane Watson, and he was shifted to CSK.

5. Jasprit Bumrah

Modern-day great Jasprit Bumrah was picked by the scout management of Mumbai Indians, one of the most successful teams in IPL history, in 2013 only for 10 Lakh INR. Now, Bumrah is not only the backbone of his IPL franchise but also the leader of the Indian bowling unit. During his 10 years of service to MI, he took 145+ wickets and was on the list of best economies in the history of IPL. His Man of the Match award in the 2019 IPL finals was an example of why he is one of the important aspects of MI’s success in IPL.

Many hidden gems were discovered through the IPL auctions that completely changed the face of the league forever. The fact that these top five all-time picks have been made is proof of the excellent work of scouting and future prediction.

Jaspreet Bhumra’s rise and Shaun Marsh’s blistering debut are just a few examples of the kind of players who are not merely talented but demonstrate the IPL ability to make careers or legends.
