India defeated Pakistan 4-3 to win Bronze Medal in Asian Champions Trophy
In a nail-biting match, the Indian Men’s Hockey Team defeated Pakistan by 4-3 and bagged the Bronze Medal in the Asian Champions Trophy.
The Indian Men’s Hockey Team, today, beat Pakistan 4-3 to bag the Bronze Medal in the Asian Champions Trophy that is being held in Bangladesh. In a nail-biting match, the defending champions India took a lead in the opening stage of the match but soon was caught by Pakistan and the score was 1-1 by the end of the first half. Later, at the commencement of the second half, Pakistan scored the first goal but India too scored a goal and both the arch-rivals had two goals each on the scoreboard.
The game was getting intense with each passing minute and with seven minutes left in the match, India bounce back and took the lead with Varun Kumar successfully scoring a penalty corner. India had the lead but the match still looked unpredictable as Hardik Singh got himself a yellow card, costing team India 5 more minutes. Further, the Indian side was in trouble as now they were left to just 10 players. However, Akashdeep scored a goal for the Indian side, taking the team’s total goal to 4. It seemed that the match was finished but Pakistan’s Ahmed Nadeem scored a goal in the last phase, taking their tally to 3. With a few minutes to go, both sides put in their best efforts but then it was 4-3 in the end and the Indian side triumphed.
Speaking on the occasion, the Indian Skipper Manpreet Singh who has also been awarded the Man of the Match said “I need to give my 100%, every time I play for India. And that’s what I did. I told my boys yesterday that today is a new day and new match and the boys”. For the Indian side, Harmanpreet Singh, Sumit, Varun Kumar, and Akashdeep Singh scored the goals while for Pakistan Afraz, Abdul Rana and Ahmed Nadeem scored the goals.
Earlier, in the semi-final, India was defeated by Japan (3-5).
