Guillain-Barré syndrome is an autoimmune disorder that is a rare condition but can turn out to be severe. The condition is triggered by an acute bacterial or viral infection.
ÂOur study shows that COVID-19 can precede Guillain-Barre syndrome in rare cases, said Bart C Jacobs of the Rotterdam University Medical Center in the Netherlands.
ÂBut the existence of a true association or causal relationship has yet to be established, said Jacobs, one of the authors of the article.
Since the Covid virus is affecting a large number of people, scientists are racing to find the cause to help save lives and curb the virusÂs spread. Guillain-Barré syndrome attacks the nerves and if the condition worsens it can even paralyze the whole body. The syndrome can last for weeks or even several years making the patient go through a tough time.
